Learning about the night sky can be challenging; there’s a lot of sky out there. Even in a single month, there can be dozens of night sky objects and phenomena to look at and learn about. For many, this can be overwhelming. In this ongoing project for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, the challenge is to break down “what’s in the sky” on a weekly basis, and feature the highlights in under three minutes.
Produced for sharing on Facebook, YouTube, IG TV, and in the monthly newsletter, the videos are aimed at meeting the needs of social followers and online learners.
Project dates: March 2020 – ongoing
Update August 2020: The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory’s YouTube page was launched in late March 2020 and has roughly 350 subscribers, but editorial videos have a current average view rate of 41%.
