Social Media

Social media is the language of the 21st century. Most people (excepting my 43-year-old brother, who has somehow never once opened Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok and had to be forced to get on LinkedIn) use some form of social media every day… nay, every hour. If you want to communicate with an audience, whether it be a group of professionals during an industry conference, your community when there’s an emergency or an event, or you need to get in touch with Xennials and Gen Alpha, social media is probably the first channel of communication you should use. And I’ve used it professionally since (cough cough, dating myself) Facebook was only for university students trading class notes (oh, did you not know that it used to be for that?) so I have evolved with and know how to make it work for every generation, past and present. Here’s just some highlights of how I’ve used it:

  • Trend jacking for a major tech startup, Kymeta, for the pizza box sized antenna on National Pizza Day.
  • Live tweeting (don’t worry, I’ve moved to BlueSky) science results and key notes from a press release and press conference in real-time during the American Astronomical Society conference.
  • Building threaded stories (and teaching others to do the same) that can tell complex science stories through pictures, animations, and short sentences, and still get the message across as effectively as, in not moreso than, a press release.
